First of all... I had a ticket to go to the 12:01am showing of star wars: episode ii, but couldn't and had to sell my ticket.... then I show up at rowing to see what.....our '96 empacher 8+ (rowed by our jr. a women) that used to be the Canadian Women's national team 8+ fell off the rack. We last rowed it this weekend and won gold. It was sitting on the rack and the corporate challenge crew was putting our men's Dirigo SLX away underneath and a rigger caught our 8+ and pulled the stern off... the stern fell two racks and landed.
It doesn't look bad.... the fin is bent about 70 degrees and there is probably about 30 soft spots on the hull.... it's in a lot better shape than you'd expect.... but it will never be the same... *sigh* Hopefully we can replace it with insurance money.... but we were planning on taking it to henley. This is a very bad day. The coach of that corporate challenge crew was crying when she told my coach about it.... a sad day indeed.
PS.... we have our Empacher 4+ from the jr. worlds last year and our men's Empacher 8+ on racks overlapping the 8+ that fell.... we are so lucky we didn't lose 3 empachers that day.

awww... well suck it up! we obviously like i've said 20 times are a new crew. all our equipment sucks. we dont even own a trailer. we have to borrow boats or we go with ncsu places and use theirs. in our second year we had the only 3 boats we owned on the trailer. it was touch and go traffic and the trailer flipped. the boats we crashed... gonners... just like that! buh bye :(
it was a sad night and next week for our team. luckily it was after the last regatta in fall. the boats sat in an inpound (sp?) in charlotte NC for months! luckily one of our rower's dads own a import car shop and is still fixing it now. but..... you think your little 70 degree angle deal was bad! (just kidding. that IS sad i would cry, seriously) ha!
at least you had a rudder! we had a race where the rudder got stuck and wouldnt work and made our boat turn the opposite way as the way in which the race course turned!
raleigh cox!
