Hey to everyone... I have a little dilema,
There is this girl in my school who is a sophmore and she is going to try-out for the team for spring season. It's not that I do not like her, because I do, it is just that she doesn't like crew! She is only doing it because she has nothing else to do and thinks it looks good to be on a varsity sport. She is doing it for all the wrong reasons, and she has even said that she doesn't like crew. Not to mention that she has barely any coxing experience..i am talking maybe 10 days in the hot seat max. I just don't want her on the team if she doesn't know anything. My coach even asked me what i though about her and I said i didnt think she was ready, and my coach agreed, but because we might lose a good cox, i think they might take her on, but the coaches think she knows a lot about coxing, and she doesn't.
How do a prevent a disaster form occuring on the team?
Don't get me wrong, she is a great person, but her heart is not in crew.
Thanks!

If her heart isn't in it, she won't stick around - therefore if that is the issue, let fate take its course. You have given your input to the coach and if they choose to go ahead, you need to support their decision as best as you can. We all started out with barely any coxing experience, so that is not insurmountable. Show that you are looking out for your program by being a good role model and offering some mentoring. She might end up surprising you if you give her a chance and show what it means to be a good cox. If not, you will have gained some respect from your coach and your team by rising to the occasion.
