I'm sure all of you have heard the song lose yourself, by Eminem. And if you haven't it is all about having one chance, and losing yourself in the music. Now you are proably wondering why I am bringing up music.

Well Eminem sings/raps about losing yourself in the music, and as I was listening to that working out the other morning with my crew, I realized just how much you get lost in coxing. especially in races, you get so into it as if that is all that is going on around you. And I have to say that it is the most awesome thing that a person could experience. That feeling that anything can happen and HAVING TO WIN..there is nothing like it.

Another thing is the relationships that you have with your crew especially your stroke. My boyfriend (not a rower) does not seem to understand how you can become so close to people in just over 2 months or so. And I've realized that with no other team do you become this close to your team/crew mates. It is a certain kind of trust that they lay upon you, and the kind of respect that you have for them that just makes it so special. I don't think you can have this kind of relationship with anyone other then your crew. And it makes me glad to be in this sport everyday!!

Row it 'till the end..and keep your head up!!

I really under stand what you mean about HAVING TO WIN. Before I joined crew I was really non competitive, would you beleive that coming from a coxie? Sometimes it all seems so overwhelming.

you are so right about getting lost in coxing...once i get to the race site, usually the day before, i am in 'coxie mode' as my crew sometimes calls it. earlier this year we were walking around the river the day before the race and i actually coxed out the walking when there was a boat coming through...i got a lot of flack for that one!! but i love coxing and don't mind getting caught up in it all!!

Being in a bow-coxed boat, I don't have the on-the-water relationship with my rowers as much as I used to. However, I feel because I am in this boat my performance is improved and I have gained greater respect, from the entire club. Off the water though, I have four wonderful big sisters, and after 6 seasons of coxing my family is getting huge!!!
