Well the Varsity boat is set. The names are on our tickets to Boston. The guys are ready to make real progress that lasts more than one day. So am I. The lightweight and JV boats are also set which means we can have consistent practices. My line up is as follows stroke: Chris, seven (the least bitchy person I know): Pat, six: Will, five: John, four: Yurij (Yur-ee), three: Jamie my stroke from JV, two: Kevin , bow: Ben. John is out with stomach flu so we rowed a seven. We did forty minutes leapfrogging and we did it pretty well considering. Once we realized that we HAVE to get the run it went a lot smoother. In the last two minutes the JV and Lights ran into each other on the turn so Ed called it a day. My guys decided to do a power ten at high rate, just to finish it off. (Like the famous Lightweight Sprint Off at the end of every practice last year. EVERY SINGLE ONE.) We built for three and then up for ten. Highest rate was a forty I think and it was a good forty. We started spinning our wheels towards the ninth stroke but overall it was good. You know I am just so happy to finally have a set boat of guys to call my own. We get along and joke around but know when to get down to business. Our first race is a week from Sunday. I think I'm hosting the guys at my house on Saturday night, (Carbfest) because Friday's Bob Dylan and Sunday is Tail of the Lake. I am just so happy that it's done (bouncing boats) and that it's gonna be consistent. Except tomorrow, John's still out and Pat's got a doctors appointment. Oh well you can't win them all.
Never forget to fight.

Q. Your coach lets you row with only seven in the boat? At most clubs I know that is not allowed. Things that make you go .. hmmmmmmm

I was just trying to say that it is strange the rules that some clubs have, that other clubs don't care about. Makes you wonder how much these rules are based on 'safety' and how much on 'it's always been done this way'.

yeah, i would recomend that you do between 4 to 8 five minute pieces w/ a low rate.... 18-24 progressively changing... focus on a really strong leg drive with a very relaxed slide to obtain a proper ratio....and....wahlaa there is some run....!
in your race you should hold 28-32 and for the last 400 between 33&35....works every time as long as you dont ***** it up:)! concentrate on slide control in the first 2000 b/c your guys should be pretty nervous and that will screw you over if you dont control them....
